From Quantitative Funds to On-Chain Asset Management: A PhD Economist's Journey in Web3 Entrepreneurship

Dr. Andy Cheung, with his strong academic background and financial experience, has successfully transformed from a traditional quantitative fund manager to a Web3 entrepreneur. He believes that the core of Web3 lies in disrupting traditional economic models and significantly reducing transaction costs, especially at the institutional cost level. Although this process is long and complex, Andy firmly believes that Web3 will bring about profound changes comparable to the Industrial Revolution.

As the founder of Zeuspace Quantitative Fund and a partner at a certain exchange, Andy is striving to integrate "traditional" and "future". He stated that Zeuspace focuses on cryptocurrency quantitative trading, while the exchange's business is gradually transforming into crypto business by leveraging its licensing advantages. In the future, they will launch more financial products and support the tokenization of physical assets (RWA).

When it comes to risk control, Andy emphasizes that the core of quantitative trading lies in capital management and position control, rather than purely technical strategies. They adhere to the principle of not using leverage to ensure the safety of funds for institutions and high-net-worth clients. In terms of user service, they employ AI automated trading and report generation, while maintaining regular communication with clients.

For ordinary people participating in Web3, Andy suggests starting with authoritative media reports and gaining a broad understanding before finding a direction to delve deeper. He believes that RWA is still in the early stages, and the infrastructure and compliance framework are under construction.

Looking back on his entrepreneurial journey, Andy admitted that the industry has a high elimination rate, and surviving relies on persistence and a long-term approach. He believes that the greatest gain from entrepreneurship is gaining self-awareness, learning humility, and continuous learning. In the end, Andy advises everyone to adhere to the principle of first principles and not to rely too heavily on economic models, as human behavior is difficult to predict and models can easily fail.
